Lumber Liquidators Chairman's Behavior Deceptive on Tainted Flooring Issue

April 05, 2015 | 6 Comments

On March 1, 60 Minutes aired a segment about illegally high levels of formaldehyde found in laminate flooring sourced from China and sold by Lumber Liquidators, a Virginia-based retailer of hardwood flooring. QVerity's behavioral analysis of correspondent Anderson Cooper's interview with Lumber Liquidators founder and chairman Tom Sullivan  concluded that Sullivan was likely aware that his company was selling flooring that was non-compliant with these regulations, and that he appeared to be withholding information, the disclosure of which could result in serious negative consequences for himself and his company.

The Baby Lisa Mystery: A Sneak Peek at Phil Houston's Interviews with Lisa's Parents

December 31, 2014 | No Comments Source.

On January 2, Phil Houston will appear on Megyn Kelly's investigative series, The Kelly File, for a special report into the Baby Lisa case. When young Lisa Irwin went missing from her Kansas City home in October 2011, authorities quickly turned to the girl's parents as likely suspects. But during his interviews with both Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin just 10 days after the incident, Houston determined it was highly likely both parents have been telling the truth: They aren't responsible for Lisa's disappearance.

Before the full story airs this Friday, you can watch a special, 6-minute sneak peek of the episode, including exclusive footage from Houston's 2011 interviews, at Fox News Insider.

Alibaba CEO Deceptive on Nature of Relationship with Chinese Government

October 09, 2014 | 2 Comments Source.

In an interview with “60 Minutes” correspondent Lara Logan, broadcast on September 28, 2014, Alibaba CEO Jack Ma made a concerted effort to distance Alibaba from the Chinese government, and to present the company as being independent and free of government interference. However, based on our analysis of the interview, Ma’s behavior strongly suggests that the relationship is far deeper than he is willing to publicly disclose.

Snowden Deceptive in NBC News Interview

May 29, 2014 | 2 Comments

Edward Snowden's behavior during his interview with Brian Williams of NBC News, which aired Wednesday night, demonstrated that the former NSA employee is likely well aware of the harm he has caused to U.S. national security interests, that he has almost certainly been debriefed by Russian intelligence officials, and that his motive for stealing and releasing highly classified information was largely one of self-aggrandizement and self-promotion.

QVerity Analysis Finds High Level of Deception in McAfee Interview

May 26, 2013 | 2 Comments

On May 23, Alicia Menendez of the Huffington Post conducted an interview via webcam with John McAfee, founder of the antivirus software company that bears his name, who in the past year has been mired in controversy. McAfee fled his home in Belize after government authorities there sought to question him about the Nov. 11, 2012, murder of his neighbor, Gregory Faull. QVerity has conducted a behavioral analysis of the interview, and has found a high level of deception exhibited by McAfee. Collectively, his deceptive behaviors indicate the high likelihood that McAfee was involved in Faull’s death, and that he has little or no information to the contrary. The high volume of attack behaviors we observed reflects a desperation and a last-resort mentality, which are indicative of McAfee’s fear that he is out of options, that  the authorities may be closing in on him, and that he will be apprehended—possibly sooner rather than later.

January 25, 2013 | 2 Comments

Our analysis of Oprah Winfrey’s recent two-part interview with Lance Armstrong yielded the conclusion that the cyclist did not come completely clean during the interview. Two days after a 45-10 thrashing in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs by the New England Patriots, the Denver Broncos held their end-of-season press conference. Our analysis of comments made during the conference by John Elway, Denver’s president of football operations, indicates that despite Elway’s apparent endorsement of Tim Tebow, it’s unclear that Tebow will be the Broncos’ starting quarterback next year.

December 02, 2011 | No Comments

In light of our recent analysis of presidential candidate Herman Cain’s comments in response to the claim by Ginger White that she and Cain had engaged in a 13-year affair, and in the interest of fair play, the QVerity team has analyzed statements made by White in her Nov. 30 interview with George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America. For those of you who are unfamiliar with our analysis of Cain’s comments in his interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, we found that Cain exhibited significant deceptive behavior in attempting to deny the affair with White, and concluded that his behavior suggests that White’s allegation is likely true.

When it Comes to Telling the Truth, It Appears Cain is Still Not Able

November 29, 2011 | 2 Comments

Despite his best efforts, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain appears to still be struggling with telling the truth. In the face of new sexual allegations levied against him, Cain told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Nov. 28 that he wanted to go on the show “to give you a heads-up, and your audience a heads-up, here we go again.” QVerity analysts believe that in doing so the only “heads-up” Cain provided was his intention to withhold significant information regarding the allegations of a 13-year affair with Atlanta businesswoman Ginger White. A behavioral analysis of the interview reflects an extremely high volume of deceptive behavior exhibited by Cain.

Sandusky Exhibits Rampant Deceptive Behavior in Costas Interview

November 17, 2011 | 2 Comments

The nature of the allegations that former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky molested or had sexual involvement with multiple minors has led many to believe that Sandusky is likely guilty of most, if not all, of those allegations. Our behavioral assessment of Sandusky’s Nov. 14 interview with NBC’s Bob Costas strongly supports that conclusion. What is even more disturbing, however, is that our analysis also suggests that Sandusky’s sexual contact with children isn’t limited to those cases alleged in the indictment. He displays a very high volume of deceptive indicators in the interview, and his consistent failure to provide denials to direct questions regarding the matter is particularly noteworthy.

Anthony Weiner: A Textbook Case of Deception

June 02, 2011 | 1 Comment

A group of journalists on May 31 asked Rep. Anthony Weiner a range of questions about his claim that a lewd photo sent to a young woman from his Twitter account was the result of someone hacking into his account. During the exchange, which occurred outside his Capitol Hill office, Weiner exhibited a series of deceptive behaviors that strongly indicate not only that he is being untruthful about this particular matter, but that there is likely much more to the story as it relates to this type of behavior on his part.

No, Sepp -- This Has Everything to Do with Money

December 14, 2010 | No Comments

As much as we’re disinclined to pick on FIFA President Sepp Blatter, it’s impossible to ignore the comments he made at a press conference in South Africa yesterday. His outrageous remarks directed at gays aside, Blatter’s continued focus on attempts to justify the selection of Russia and Qatar to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cup events is becoming increasingly absurd.

FIFA’s Blatter: Still in Attack Mode

December 13, 2010 | No Comments

At a ceremony yesterday in Bahrain to inaugurate the Bahrain Football Association’s Goal Project Three, FIFA President Sepp Blatter continued his verbal attacks on those who remain critical of FIFA’s selections to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cup tournaments.  That Blatter would choose to incorporate these attacks into such an event suggests he’s on the offensive in his fight to silence his critics.
